Short Distance Physics and Initial State Effects on the CMB Power Spectrum and Cosmological Constant
We investigate a modification in the action of inflaton due to noncommutativity leads to a nonstandard initial vacuum and oscillatory corrections in the initial power spectrum. We show that the presence of these oscillations causes a drop in the WMAP χ2 about ∆χ2 ∼ 8.5. We also show that this nonstandard initial vacuum state can provide a rolling in cosmological constant. As a bonus, from the p...
متن کاملThe Standard Cosmological Model and CMB Anisotropies
This is a course on cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropies in the standard cosmological model, designed for beginning graduate students and advanced undergraduates. “Standard cosmological model” in this context means a Universe dominated by some form of cold dark matter (CDM) with adiabatic perturbations generated at some initial epoch, e.g., Inflation, and left to evolve under gravity ...
متن کاملDuality and the cosmological constant
A dynamical theory is studied in which a scalar field φ in Einstein-Minkowski space is coupled to the four-velocity Nμ of a preferred inertial observer in that space. As a consistent requirement on this coupling we study a principle of duality invariance of the dynamical mass-term of φ at some universal length in the smalldistance regime. In the large-distance regime duality breaking can be int...
متن کاملQuintessence and the cosmological constant
The idea of quintessence originates from an attempt to understand the smallness of the “cosmological constant” or dark energy in terms of the large age of the universe [1]. As a characteristic consequence, the amount of dark energy may be of the same order of magnitude as radiation or dark matter during a long period of the cosmological history, including the present epoch. Today, the inhomogen...
متن کاملThe Cosmological Constant and Pioneer Anomaly from Weyl Spacetimes and Mach’s Principle
It is shown how Weyl’s geometry and Mach’s Holographic principle furnishes both the magnitude and sign (towards the sun) of the Pioneer anomalous acceleration aP ∼ −c/RHubble firstly observed by Anderson et al. Weyl’s Geometry can account for both the origins and the value of the observed vacuum energy density (dark energy). The source of dark energy is just the dilaton-like Jordan-Brans-Dicke ...
